We do not ask for your Apple Account password, your full payment details, or any sensitive personal information, and you should never send those to us.
Frequently asked questions
How do I scan a coin or banknote?
- Open Buck and tap the scan (camera) button.
- Place your coin or banknote on a flat, evenly lit surface. A plain background and good lighting make a big difference.
- Fill the frame with the item and hold steady, then capture the photo. You can also import an existing photo from your library.
- Buck sends the image for identification and shows you what it found: the country, denomination, year, mint mark, variety where available, and the item name.
Tip: for the best results, photograph one side at a time, avoid glare, and keep the whole coin or note inside the frame.
Why is the value shown as a range and not a single number?
A coin or banknote does not have one fixed price. What a piece sells for depends on its exact condition and grade, its rarity and variety, authenticity, current demand, and who is buying. Because of this, Buck presents value as an estimated range rather than a single number, so you get a realistic picture instead of false precision.
Please note: the live value feature is still being rolled out. While we connect Buck to real market sales data, you may see a status message such as "Checking real sales..." instead of a finished value. We would rather show you an honest placeholder than a number we cannot yet stand behind.
Are Buck's values official appraisals?
No. Buck's values are estimates based on available market information. They are not a professional appraisal, not a guarantee of any sale price, and not financial or investment advice. The actual amount a piece is worth depends on its condition, grade, authenticity, and what a buyer is willing to pay. For a formal valuation, please consult a qualified numismatic professional or grading service.
How accurate is the identification?
Buck uses image recognition to identify your coin or banknote, and it is right in most clear, well-lit cases. It is not perfect. Worn pieces, unusual lighting, glare, blurry photos, partial framing, or rare varieties can lead to a mistaken or low-confidence result. Buck shows a confidence indicator with each identification so you can judge how sure it is. If a result looks wrong, you can rescan with a better photo or report it to us (see "Report a problem or a wrong identification" below).
How do I cancel my subscription or free trial?
Buck subscriptions are billed by Apple through your Apple Account, so you cancel them in your iPhone Settings, not inside the Buck app. If you cancel during a free trial, you keep access until the trial ends and you will not be charged, as long as you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. See the full step by step instructions in the "Manage your subscription" section below.
How do I restore my purchases?
If you already subscribed and your access is not showing (for example, after reinstalling Buck or getting a new iPhone), open Buck, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you used to subscribe. Restoring is free and does not charge you again.
How do I delete my data?
Buck is built to hold as little of your data as possible. There is no account and no login, so there is no profile to delete. Buck stores a small amount of information locally on your device (for example, app preferences and a snapshot of the in-app feed). The photos you scan are sent for identification and are not retained on our side after the result is returned (see "Is my photo stored?" below).
To remove the local data Buck keeps on your device, delete the Buck app from your iPhone. This removes Buck's locally stored data along with the app. If you have questions about your data, email privacy@getbuckapp.com.
Is my photo stored?
When you scan an item, Buck sends the photo to its backend, which passes the image to a third-party artificial intelligence provider (Google Gemini) for the sole purpose of identifying the coin or banknote. Buck's backend is a stateless service: it does not keep a copy of your images after the identification is returned, it has no user accounts, and it does not build a profile of you. The image is used to answer your request and is not retained for any other purpose. For full details, see our Privacy Policy at getbuckapp.com/privacy.
Does Buck work offline?
Partly. Scanning and identification need an internet connection, because the photo is sent out to be identified and the value estimate relies on market data. Parts of the app that show information already on your device may work without a connection, but to scan a new coin or banknote you need to be online. If a scan fails, first check your internet connection and try again.
Why did Buck fail to identify my coin or banknote?
The most common reasons are photo quality and connection:
- The photo was blurry, dark, angled, or had glare.
- The coin or note was not fully inside the frame.
- The piece is very worn, damaged, or an uncommon variety.
- Your internet connection dropped during the scan.
Try again with a sharp, well-lit, head-on photo that fills the frame, on a plain background, with one side at a time. If Buck still cannot identify it, please report it to us so we can keep improving (see below).
Manage your subscription
Buck offers an auto-renewing subscription, and it may include a free trial. Billing, renewals, and cancellations are handled by Apple through your Apple Account. You can view, change, or cancel your subscription at any time in your iPhone Settings.
How to cancel (step by step)
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Buck.
- Tap Cancel Subscription (or Cancel Free Trial if you are still in the trial period). If you do not see a Cancel option, the subscription is already canceled and will not renew.
You can also manage subscriptions through the App Store: open the App Store, tap your profile photo, then tap Subscriptions.
Good to know
- Free trials: to avoid being charged, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. If you cancel during the trial, you keep access until the trial period is over.
- Renewals: an auto-renewing subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- After you cancel: you keep access to paid features until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Refunds: purchases are processed by Apple, so refund requests are handled by Apple. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
For the official instructions, see Apple's guide on how to cancel a subscription at support.apple.com/en-us/HT202039.
Privacy and your data
We designed Buck to collect as little as possible. In short:
- No account and no login are required to use Buck.
- The photos you scan are sent out only to identify the item, and they are not retained on our side after the result is returned.
- Identification is performed with the help of a third-party artificial intelligence provider (Google Gemini), and we tell you this clearly inside the app before your first scan.
- Buck does not track you across other apps or websites, and it does not sell your data.
For the complete details on what we process and why, please read our Privacy Policy at getbuckapp.com/privacy. For privacy questions, contact privacy@getbuckapp.com.
Report a problem or a wrong identification
We want Buck to get better with every scan, and your reports help.
If Buck identified your coin or banknote incorrectly, or if something is not working:
- Email support@getbuckapp.com with the subject line "Wrong identification" or "Bug report".
- Attach the photo you scanned (or a clear new photo of both sides).
- Tell us what Buck said and what the item actually is, if you know.
- Include your iPhone model, your iOS version, and the Buck app version.
For billing or refund issues, remember that payments are handled by Apple. You can request a refund directly at reportaproblem.apple.com.
